I'm known for the book "Off the Street," in which I, along with author Hugo Verkley, attempt to answer the question of why boys from non-Western backgrounds are more likely to become involved in crime. And above all: how can we, as a society, support services, or parents prevent this? Trough my life story, we take a closer look at these questions.
I spent time in institutions from the age of 12 until 24, I spent most time in institutions, largely within the criminal justice system. At 24, I decided to make a change because I became the father of my first daughter. It was a long and incredibly difficult journey. As my quote goes:
“It is very easy to get into crime, difficult to get out of it, but most difficult of all to stay out of it.”
This has to do with the contrast between earning money normally and making money quickly. The difference is too great.

Our organization
Our organization
An important concept we use within our organisation are the three W's: work, housing, and stable partner or support system.
We believe that you need to have at least one of these three in order to motivate young people to make the switch. Then they'll have something to live for.
Having seen so much within comes to care organisations and institutions I am driven to make a real difference. I want to bet that difference from to perspectives: as a former client, and as a professional working within the municipality of Utrecht.
