Building bridges
2024 – present

Building bridges means looking beyond where someone came from. It means believing in where someone can go.

Over the past two years, together with the PGA-Experts (personal guidance) and other professionals within G4- city government, I've helped make that believe real.

For young detainees, who often found themselves stuck in systems and rules, perspectives became visible again.

Through empathy, commitment, perseverance, and a tailored approach, practical matters were made possible again. A valid ID, access to benefits, a chance at suitable employment, or obtaining a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG)—not certainties, but essential steps toward stability.

These seemingly small successes make a world of difference. They provide peace, confidence, and above all: a future.

How do we get them to work?
2024 – present

The question was clear: how do we encourage young people on welfare to (re)enter sustainable employment? The answer turned out to lie in personal attention, trust, and a tailored approach.

By combining knowledge and experience with a personalized approach, we've succeeded in getting young inmates moving. Not by following standard programs, but by connecting with their world, qualities, opportunities, and challenges. By motivating, guiding, and carefully matching them with employers who are a true fit.

Over the past year, this has led to concrete results: I've successfully guided five to ten young people into employment. Jobs that offer not only income but also structure, self-esteem, and future prospects.

In official terms we call this an Integrated Person-Centered Guidance to Employment.

In practice, it is an approach that works — because the young detainee is heard, seen and helped.

Think inside to stay outside 2024 – present

A growing group of young people is coming to the attention of the police. The reflex is often repression, but the real key lies deeper. Not in more drastic intervention, but in the young people's own thinking.

This program focuses on raising awareness. It uses an active and approachable approach, by being present and engaging in conversation. By sharing life experiences and connecting with the young people's perspectives, we create space for reflection. What are the consequences of their choices? What alternatives exist? And above all: what kind of future do they envision for themselves?

By helping young people learn to view their situation differently, they grow in their understanding of their own power. That there are multiple paths. That perspective is possible, especially before they move on to more serious problems.

In official terms, it is about prevention and early detection.

In practice, it is about trust, awareness and opening up new perspectives — so that young people choose from within to stay outside.

Guest speaker: 2022 – present

Inspiring, moving, impressive, disarming, and humorous is the positive feedback I receive about my contribution as a guest speaker at conferences for organizations such as:

• VNG

• Police Academy

• DAS, legal assistance

• DJI Reintegration Square Arnhem

• Dutch Design Week

• National Platform for Neighborhood-oriented Work

• Annual congress on organised crime and undermining
